If you've ever been part of a musical, you know that it is no easy task. It required countless volunteers and hours of rehearsal/prep work. But the result in the end makes all the long hours so worth it!
This year our school put on Beauty & the Beast Jr.. I can not rave enough about the Jr Shows that MTI puts out. They are perfect for Middle Schools. The run time is reduced to approx. 1 hour, shortening some scenes and songs.
Because this is the first year I have had grade 8 drama students for the full year I turned that class into my production crew. They were in charge of all planning/designing the lights, sound, hair, make-up, props, and set building. It was a fantastic hands on experience for students to get an idea of what all goes on behind the scenes of a musical. It was most impressive to see my sound and lights crew go from knowing almost nothing about these types of technology, to developing their own tech scripts and fully running the sound and lights for the production!
